In a Pickle - The Characters
About Dottie Pickles
Ex-Pop Star Dottie, now owns a memorabilia shop - only trouble is, she can't bear to part with any of the goods...
Recycled teenager Dottie, has created her own perfect world of living in a swinging 60s bubble. Inside her head, she is still the successful pop star who sometimes appeared in 50s style, at other times in 60s outfits. Dottie still backcombs her hair and wears mini skirts. Dottie's favourite possession is her Dansette record player, on which she plays her collection of pop singles.
Easily distracted from life’s essential routines, Dottie rarely dusts and bookwork completely passes her by. She abhors rules. She gigs locally, with her present band and loves tootling around the country lanes on her iconic Vespa.
Dottie adores her niece, but wishes Alison would loosen up and enjoy life more.

About Alison Pickles
Dottie's niece, Alison is on the persistent but doomed quest for an ordered life.
Alison usually wears little make-up, preferring a natural look. She helps Dottie run Pickles Vintage Emporium, in between her part-time job as a groom at the local stables.
Alison is a romantic. She dreams of a Jane Austen hero falling in love with her - preferably an aristocrat. Alison needs order, hates sticky fingers and prefers opera to pop. Her idea of heaven is relaxing in a bubble tub.
Alison loves Aunt Dottie but thinks she should act more normal and grow up, especially when Alison is swayed by auntie's antics which then land them in the soup.

About Brendan Murphy
Brendan considers he’s a sharp dresser and a business entrepreneur of Dragon’s Den calibre.
Brendan has a stall on market days in Bungly, selling knick-knacks made in China. He also helps his dad, Big Terry, run The Royal Oak. His ideas don’t make lots of spondoola, they just muddy the frothy coffee for Dottie and Alison.
Brendan is smitten with Alison and secretly dreams of being dashing James Bond, taking her on honeymoon in his silver Aston Martin.

Supporting Characters
Sir Joshua
Local aristocrat
Joshua adores his mumsy, Lady Juniper, but only occasionally visits the ancestral homestead on the outskirts of Bungly. Joshua's Palomino stallion is stabled at the local stables. He wants a stay at home wife, who accepts his rackety days in the city.
Alison is smitten, but Joshua's more in the league of a Jane Austen rogue than a hero.
Faye Wilson
Groom at local stables
Faye's favourite film is Love Actually, a choice shared by her best friend, Alison. Faye is shy, loves Glasgow (her birth place) and has a secret crush on Brendan.
Faye keeps Alison sane, when Aunt Dottie has stepped far out of line and placed Alison in an embarrassing situation.
Beatrice Fortescue
Bungly Resident
Beatrice is one of Aunt Dottie’s oldest friends. She thinks of herself as a Trixie - but according to Dottie, Beatrice is the least looking Trixie you ever saw. Beatrice is extremely nosy and lacks tact. However, she has a kind heart.
Beatrice is lonely as her husband is so often away from home; he's known by some locals as Charles AWOL Fortescue.
Big Terry
Landlord of The Royal Oak
Terence Murphy, a widower, is the Landlord of The Royal Oak and Brendan's father. He earned the ‘Big’ title after a fishing trip yielded a 1.2Kg Specimen Perch.
Locals out and about on Bungly’s High Street in the early morning will likely pass Big Terry on his daily jog up to the bridge and onto the canal towpath. He owns a Triumph Bonneville T120.
